DUNHILL YEAR 1981 LIMITED ED. MICROPHONE PIPE, No. 46 OF ONLY 50 MADE! – Price: $1,100 – SOLD
STAMPED & ITEM DESCRIPTION – Stamped: as shown in the photos. A mesmerizing presentation of a Microphone Pipe by Dunhill, London. This very rare piece is numbered 46 of only 50 ever made back in 1981 for the year 1982 Pipe Smoker of the Year Award that Dunhill annually handed out at a very special awards banquet. Here is the official information by Dunhill London regarding that banquet and this piece –
“… This award & pipe was presented to Dave Lee Travis, a pipe smoker and famous disc jockey on BBC Radio.
The pipe takes the form of a microphone resting on a phonograph record. It consists of 4 pieces Dunhill presented the first
pipe in the series to Mr. Travis and the 2nd pipe in the series has been retained in the Dunhill Pipe Museum in London.
Dunhill produced a total of 50 numbered pieces, 48 of which were released for sale.”
This pipe was professionally cleaned by well known pipe maker and pipe refurbisher Tim West, of Columbus, Ohio. And he certainly has this rare pipe in showcase condition and it would certainly be a worthy centerpiece for any collection. The bowl interior is super solid and very clean. The outer bowl’s finish is polished and shiny and the stem also glistens with no bite or scratch marks. The vulcanite “shank ” and the phonograph record style microphone stand are also in excellent condition with the stand itself is showing only a hint of scratching where Tim West did not polish out the slight marks in order to properly preserve the grooves in the “record”. Just a beautiful specimen!

RG1 – MICHAEL LINDNER SIGNATURE “NIGHTSHADE” RING GRAIN SANDBLAST – $725
STAMPED & ITEM DESCRIPTION – Followers of the great American pipe maker Michael Lindner have shown an affinity for this “Nightshade” design and they are certainly hard to obtain as collectors purchase them almost as fast as Lindner makes them. And this particular rendition is a raving beauty with dark stain highlighted by streaks of rich, dark burgundy. The blast, as noted in the photos, is craggy and well defined, and the hand made stem is wafer thin, yet very sturdy. The pipe has been seldom smoked and is professionally cleaned with a super solid bowl interior and the stem bears no tooth impressions. As is the case with all Lindner pipes, the wood is of exceptional quality (check out the very light size/weight ratio below), and the drilling is perfect.

STAMPED & ITEM DESCRIPTION – An elegant presentation of a cross between a Prince and Rhodesian shape with perfectly executed two knuckle bamboo shank The blast, as noted in the photos, is craggy and well defined, and the hand made stem is wafer thin, yet very sturdy. The pipe has been seldom smoked and is professionally cleaned with a super solid bowl interior and the stem, which has a steel reinforced tenon, bears no tooth impressions. As is the case with all Lindner pipes, the wood is of exceptional quality and the drilling is perfect.

TA11 – BARLING MAKE INTERNATIONAL 908 T.V.F – $45
Stamped: Barling (script) Make International, 908, T.V.F., Made in Denmark. Clean bowl interior and the vulcanite stem shows some oxidation and scratching but no bite marks. The rim shows some minor darkening and the inner rim has lost a little crispness in a couple of spots. Should clean up nicely and be a great bargain smoker for someone. This pipe is 5-3/4 inches long and the bowl is 1-3/4 inches tall. The rim width is 1.2 inches. Weight is 40.4 grams
TAE7 – SER JACOPO CORAL DOT STEM LOGO ERA PIPE – $95
Stamped: Ser Jacopo, Fatta A Mano in Italia, Per Aspera, Ad Astra and the coral dot stem logo. This handsome Upshall with lots of straight grain comes with clean bowl interior and the acrylic stem has no bite marks. The joint connection is a little loose, but this pipe has not been smoked in many years and history dictates that the area should tighten right up with smoking. This pipe is 5-1/4 inches long and the bowl is 2-1/4 inches tall. The rim width is 1-1/2 inches. Weight is 57.0 grams.
TAE8 – DON CARLOS EARLY WHITE BAR LOGO TWO NOTE STACK BILLIARD – $75
Stamped: Don Carlos, Fatta A Mano in Italia, the cleft two note designation and white bar stem logo. This Don Carlos Two Note pipe with smooth and rusticated bowl comes with clean bowl interior and the acrylic stem has some minor discoloration but no bite marks. This pipe is 6-inches long and the bowl is 2-inches tall. The rim width is 1-1/4 inches. Weight is 46.4 grams.
TAE9 – MASTRO DE PAJA 1C SANDBLAST PIPE W/ EARLY SUN LOGO ON SHANK – $50
Stamped: Mastro de Paja, 1C (in a circle), Fatta A Mano in Italia, 1981 and the Sun logo is stamped on both the shank and the bottom of the stem. This early Mastro de Paja has a very nice and well defined sandblast, clean bowl interior and the acrylic stem has some minor discoloration but no bite marks. This pipe is 5-3/4 inches long and the bowl is 1-1/2 inches tall. The rim width is 1-1/4 inches. Weight is 41.2 grams.
TAE10 – BUTZ-CHOQUIN “ALPINE” STAMPED PIPE WITH BRIAR STEM INLAY – $40
Stamped: Butz-Choquin Alpine, St. Claude, France, 202. This is a nicely put together and unique BC pipe with a long briar stem inlay that really enhances the overall presentation. It comes with a clean bowl interior and the acrylic stem is free of any scratch or bite marks. This pipe is 6-inches long and the bowl is 1-3/4 inches tall. The rim width is 1.1 inches. Weight is 45.7 grams.
